I’m confused (again!). News reports say that two of botched Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad’s cohorts are being held in Massachusetts on charges of immigration fraud. Yet Massachusetts Attorney General Martha/Marsha Coakley1 was quoted recently as saying “Technically, it is not illegal to be an ‘illegal’ in Massachusetts.” So they must be being held on Federal warrants, [...] Amazingly, Scott Brown has been declared the winner in the Massachusetts Senate race. This puts a Republican in the extra-wide, heavy-springed chair previously occupied by Jabba the Ted. More to the point, it deals a huge blow to the power of President Obama, who made an emergency visit to the state over the weekend in a [...] Obama interrupted his busy schedule to fly up to Massachusetts, there to expend yet more political capital in the service of Martha Coakley. Coakley is running explicitly as a Ted Kennedy replacement with the emphasis on the current health care scheme. Should she be defeated, the Dems would lose their filibuster-proof super majority in the Senate, [...] With a crucial 60th vote in the Senate at stake, the perceived tightening has sent Democratic operatives scrambling to Massachusetts to help the Coakley campaign and has prompted groups on both sides of the aisle to bombard the state with advertising. Ms. Coakley forcefully attacked Mr. Brown this week, an unusual step for a front-runner, [...] Ike Turner had the Ikettes, Ray Charles had the Raelettes… Martha Coakley has the Massachusettes.
