Caroline Kennedy (Schlossberg), fumbled Senate candidate, not only didn’t get picked for the job, she got “spitzered”. “Spitzering” is when you get bad-mouthed unofficially by the aides or employees of the political figure that wants you trashed but is unwilling to do so him or herself; so named because it was a favorite tactic of former [...] News flash: Caroline Kennedy didn’t lose the job as US Senator because she had zero experience or qualifications; it was because of gender discrimination. With her abrupt exit this week from consideration for the Senate, Caroline Kennedy added her name to a growing list: women who have sought the nation’s highest offices only to face insurmountable [...] Good week for the Dems, bad week for the Kennedys. Uncle Teddie was removed by ambulance from a luncheon with President Obama (note to self: don’t try to take a bite from M’Shelle’s plate). Meanwhile the sole surviving scion decided that since she was actually being asked to show a reason why she should be a US [...] Compare the media treatment of faux-candidate Caroline Kennedy with that inflicted upon Sarah Palin this past fall. Palin, despite more than a decade of politics at the local and state level, was derided as a clueless newbie. Kennedy, with nary a political or appointed office to her name, is being feted as a breath of fresh [...] Interestingly, there was a decision made by the New York City Conflicts of Interest Board to exempt The Fund for Public Schools from a law aimed at airing the financial dealings of charities. Why interesting? Because Ms. Kennedy is Vice-Chair of the Board of that charity. Shunted aside in the whole Caroline Kennedy hype is the man who thought he was in line to step into Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat: Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo, son of former NY Governor and Presidential candidate Mario Cuomo, is the state Attorney General, a former Secretary of HUD under the Clintonistas and until Ms. Kennedy’s announcement, [...] In the brave new world of Obama-land, we may not only have Hillary to kick around, but also yet another Kennedy. Let the socio-cultural brickbats begin. As Howard Kurtz has pointed out, what is now called “political branding” used to be called a “dynasty”, but at least all folks of various capabilities listed below were elected. [...] |
