The federal “pay to play” investigation that prompted New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) to withdraw his nomination as President Obama’s commerce secretary is concluding with criminal charges against the governor and his top aides appearing unlikely, according to three sources familiar with the case. via Charges Against Richardson in ‘Pay to Play’ Probe Unlikely – [...] Quadrangle, the equity company once run by Car Czar Steven Rattner, not only paid money in lobbying efforts to get some action out of the New York state pension fund, they evidently threw some money around in New Mexico as well. According to the WSJ they also gave $20K to Bill Richardson’s gubernatorial campaign. Unlike GM [...] People in glass houses, et cetera, etc. Charlie Rangel, John Murtha, Rod Blagojevich, Tom Daschle, Bill Richardson… and the latest, Roland Burris. And this after less than a month in charge of the government. Let us “hope” that all the self-righteous rhetoric spread like fertilizer over the campaign trail drifts back to pile up against the White [...] Let the finger-pointing commence. Embarrassed by the withdrawal of Governor Richardson from consideration for Obama’s band of acolytes, there is sniping between the two camps as to who revealed what and to whom? …a source with the Obama transition said Richardson’s disclosures to the [vetting] team were incomplete. [WaPo] This is the same team that demanded the [...] When you are going to have to appear before the Senate for confirmation as Secretary of Commerce, the last thing you want is a grand jury investigation into whether or not you got a $1.5 million contract for a firm that put $100K into your campaign fund.
