At least 10 states are now raising questions about the legality of the deal that Senator Ben Nelson, a Democrat, cut for his home state of Nebraska during the health care negotiations.
Under the agreement, which is on the verge of being approved Thursday by the Senate, Nebraska is permanently exempt from paying for its expansion of Medicaid, shoving that cost onto taxpayers in every other state.

Other states and other Senators getting huge earmarks include Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Louisiana, North and South Dakota, Montana and Florida. Many of the bribes come in the form of exemptions or Federal reimbursements to the very surcharges and fees on insurance companies and hospitals that are supposed to allow the plan to pay for itself and reduce the deficit. So even if you swallowed the whole whopper that spending billions on health care will reduce debt, that argument is invalidated by the very process of getting the votes to pass the bill!
All we can hope for at this point is that this train wreck goes off the rails right in front of the polling places in November, 2010.
