Gregory Craig, the White House counsel, has resigned and returned to public practice. The approved version of the story is that he never really wanted the job, but took it to please the President. The back channel story is that he was seen as fumbling the closing of the Guantanamo detention facility.
He will be replaced by Bob Bauer, a rabid Dem ideologue who participated in the legal actions against Tom DeLay in a self-admitted plan strictly to neutralize DeLay’s ability to raise campaign funds for GOP Congressional campaigns.
Of course, Bob Bauer is the husband of Anita Dunn.
